Who We Are
Helping Nevadans understand how insurance protects them.
The Nevada Insurance Council (NIC) is a non-profit organization representing the property and casualty insurance industry in Nevada. NIC is dedicated to tracking legislative and regulatory matters while developing strategic management on behalf of those members doing business in Nevada.
NIC also informs consumers on insurance issues as well as developing communications materials on legislative issues to be used by lobbyists, agents, companies, legislators, reporters and consumers.
The major industry fight during the 2021 session was over AB 277 which, as introduced, would have required an insurer to pay the usual and customary charges for medical expenses and revise the provisions relating to the exchange of medical and insurance information between the claimant, the claimant’s attorney and the insurer which were amended in the 2019 session. The industry provided significant data on the cost associated with the billed vs. paid language and working with the industry was able to get the language removed from the bill.
The bill, as signed by the Governor, requires an insurer to provide a copy of the declarations page if the claimant authorizes the insurer to assess receive all health care information.
