How It Started

The Nevada Insurance Council (NIC) was founded in 1980 by Bob Feldman of Nevada General insurance. The NIC consisted of local and national insurance executives from both large and small insurers. It also included a variety of trade associations and vendors involved in automotive, home, finance and other insurance related consumer products. NIC members insured more than 80% of automobiles and homes in Nevada. The trade’s efforts over the years have focused on auto theft, insurance fraud, flood, wildfire awareness, uninsured motorists and disasters affecting consumers. In addition, NIC conducted public relations efforts, primarily in Southern Nevada.

In 2012, NIC served as the host trade for the States Insurance Trade Association annual meeting. In 2018, NIC made a $5,000 donation to Western States Auto Theft Investigators (WSATI) to start the Nevada chapter.
